Modern Work Arrangements: Challenges and Opportunities

Our working world is constantly and rapidly changing...

The development of new technologies, such as information and communication technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, further accelerate these changes. Additionally, the expected shortage of skilled workers in the coming years presents challenges for companies. To appear attractive as employers and meet the needs of employees, more and more companies are turning to alternative work models, such as flexible working hours, remote work, or the 4-day workweek.
These work arrangements are not only popular among employees but also offer significant opportunities, such as improving the work-life balance. However, they also present unique challenges. For example, physical distance between colleagues working from home can hinder communication and information sharing, leading to feelings of isolation and loneliness. The consequences of other work arrangements, like the 4-day workweek, on the well-being of employees are still unclear.
Therefore, this research project aims to gain a more nuanced understanding of the effects of modern work arrangements, identify opportunities and challenges, and derive guidelines for their successful implementation.
