Evaluation of an Office Redesign

Activity-based flexible offices (AFO) are open office settings providing spaces for dedicated work activities, making use of the form of hot desking. This contemporary office environment is increasingly implemented in organizations (especially in the Netherlands). However, potential impacts on the workers and the organizations are still unclear.Within the present project we develop a research approach how to examine the effect of the introduction of an AFO on the employee and organization. In addition, we examine how the redesign of the office environment towards an AFO changes satisfaction with the work environment, fit between working activities and space, and working conditions in the short and long term. For that purpose, we conducted(together with our cooperation partner) a three-wave longitudinal study(baseline measurement prior to the implementation and two post-measurements one and six months after the implementation), in one organization.
